June 22nd, 2026 - Collection sharing and expanded uploads in My Library

  • Share Collections: Users can now share Collections with others as Viewers or Editors.

  • Expanded uploads: Users can now upload more than published PDFs, including manuscripts, experiment proposals, dissertations, clinical protocols, private research reports, and other research-related documents.

All uploads are private unless the user chooses to share a Collection that includes them.

June 18th, 2026 - Deep Search in Library and more flexible outputs

  • Deep Search is now available in Library and Collections. Previously, users could only run Pro searches across saved and uploaded papers. Now, Deep Search can provide a longer analysis across up to 50 relevant papers.

  • Deep Search is also more flexible. Users can attach papers and prompt Deep to create custom outputs like PICO/SPIDER reviews, reading lists, scoping maps, and custom reports.


May 15th, 2026 - Full-Text Access from Major Publishers

Consensus can access full text from major publishers including Wiley, AAAS, Taylor & Francis, Sage, ACS, APA, and others when available. Full-text access helps Consensus look beyond abstracts for sharper results and more grounded AI analysis.

May 14th, 2026 - Updates to Citation Graph, Paper Search, and My Library

  • Citation Graph: Supports 20, 40, or 60 papers, color-coded seed clusters, and improved graph layouts.

  • Paper Search: A faster, deterministic way to search papers without an AI summary.

  • My Library: Includes bibliography generation, Zotero group collection imports, DOI/RIS/BibTeX import, support for very large collections, and LaTeX export.

May 13th, 2026 - Consensus in ChatGPT, Claude, and our API

We expanded how researchers can bring Consensus into the AI tools they already use, including ChatGPT, Codex, Claude, Claude Code, and custom tools built with our API. Consensus now works inside ChatGPT Deep Research and the Claude MCP has improved retrieval and more academic filters.

May 12th, 2026 - Research Agent

We launched Research Agent, a more powerful way to answer complex, multi-step research questions in Consensus. Research Agent can plan searches, chain together tools, apply academic filters, and return citation-backed answers grounded in peer-reviewed research.

Consensus is now available as a ChatGPT App. Previously available as the Consensus GPT, the new app connection is the updated way to use Consensus inside ChatGPT.

April 30th, 2026 - Updated input experience + Paper search

  • Pro is now the default mode in Threads

  • Easily upgrade any Pro message to Deep with the new toggle

  • Paper Search, formerly Quick Search, lets you browse relevant papers without summaries. Find Paper Search under Tools in the bottom-left corner.


April 2nd, 2026 - My Library Upgrades

  • Bibliography generation: Select papers to generate citations in any style

  • Import Group Zotero collections: Bring in shared Zotero collections

  • Support for very large collections: Removed the 5,000 paper limit for Zotero imports

  • DOI / RIS / BibTeX import: Add papers using common reference formats

  • Export to LaTeX: Export responses for use in Overleaf or other LaTeX editors

February 26th, 2026 - Citation Graph

Citation Graph is a new visualization that maps how research papers connect through citations. Start with up to 5 seed papers to discover related work, identify foundational and follow-up studies, and see how research in a field has evolved over time.

February 3rd, 2026 - Import your Zotero library into Consensus

You can now import your Zotero library directly into Consensus and work with the research you’ve already collected. Once imported, your Zotero papers appear in My Library, where you can search across them, chat with collections, compare studies, and analyze folders using Consensus.

My Library lets you save, organize, and work with your research all in one place. Create Collections to organize papers and searches, chat with individual papers or entire Collections, and export citations (CSV or RIS) to your reference manager.

Chat with Collections lets you search, summarize, and analyze only the papers you’ve saved or uploaded into a Collection. Run a Pro search and select a Collection as your source to get focused, evidence-based answers from just the research you care about.

Scholar Agent is your new AI research assistant, built directly into Pro Search. Scholar Agent plans and executes multi-step searches, applies smart academic filters (like year, study type, and journal quality), and organizes results into subtopics. It makes Pro searches deeper, faster, and more structured.

October 15th, 2025 - Results Timeline figure

Results Timeline is a new visualization in Consensus that shows how research on a topic has evolved over time. It plots the top papers chronologically, with larger points representing more citations. This helps you instantly see when key studies were published and how research activity has trended in the field.

October 9th, 2025 - Medical Mode

Medical Mode narrows your results to the highest-quality medical sources: ~8 million articles from the top 1,000 medical journals and ~50,000 clinical guidelines. It focuses your search on trusted clinical research, helping you get reliable medical insights faster. To use it, click the sources dropdown in the search bar and select Medical Mode.

October 7th, 2025 - Chat with up to 5 papers

You can now select or upload up to five papers for detailed AI analysis in Consensus. Get a comprehensive, cited summary across the selected papers to compare findings, explore relationships, and assess study quality in one place. To use this feature, use the new drop-down on the search bar to select saved papers or check the boxes beside search results to ask a follow-up question.

September 17th, 2025 - Table View

We’ve added Table View to help you extract study attributes and compare papers side by side. You can now quickly review details such as population, methods, results, sample size, and duration directly within your results. Access Table View by clicking the Table button at the top of your search results.

September 12th, 2025 - Interface Updates

  • Paper sidebar view: Clicking a search result now opens a paper preview in a sidebar so you can see the abstract, key metadata, PDF (when available), and more, without leaving your thread.

  • Study Snapshots in the new sidebar: Snapshots are now in the sidebar, showing population studied, study design, outcomes, results, and sample size in one click.

  • Deep Search email notifications: You’ll now get an email notification as soon as your Deep Search is finished.

  • Dedicated search history page: View your search history page by clicking History in the left sidebar to see all your past threads and search through them.

  • Institutions in Top Contributors visual: Our 'Top Contributors' visualization in Deep Search now shows the author’s institutional affiliation, giving more context on where research is happening.

  • MeSH synonyms: Searches now support MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) synonyms, making medical queries sharper and more accurate.

You can now link your Consensus account with your university or institution to get direct access to full text from your library's subscriptions. Set it up in Account Settings by searching for your institution.


August 13th, 2025 - Full text is now included in Consensus analysis

Pro and Deep Search analysis now pull directly from the full text of papers (when available), providing richer insights. Look for the checkmark icon on in-line citations to see when full text was used. Learn more here.


August 8th, 2025 - Pro Analysis visualization updates

  • Claims & evidence table: Quickly see the strength of support, reasoning, and key supporting papers for each claim in one clear view.

  • Research gaps heat map: Highlights and visualizes areas with limited research.

February 12th, 2025 - Setting updates

  • Incognito mode: When activated in your settings, none of your searches will be saved to your search history.

  • Clear search history: You can now delete your entire search history in your settings.

The updated Consensus Meter adds additional nuance for each "position", providing detail about the methodology, the recency, the publishing journal and the impact of the papers. Learn more here.


December 19th, 2024 - Search improvements

  • New Preprint search filter: Use the new "Exclude preprints" filter to exclude non–peer-reviewed papers from your search results. Preprints are now also labeled for easier identification.

  • Search by a paper's DOI (Digital Object Identifier): Paste a paper's DOI directly into the search bar to quickly locate a specific article.

  • Typo handling: Consensus now automatically rewrites misspelled words in the background to help return more accurate results.


November 21st, 2024 - Pro Analysis updates

  • Copilot is now called Pro Analysis: We've renamed our flagship feature "Copilot" to now be called Pro Analysis.

  • Copy Pro Analysis text with citations: You can now copy + paste your Consensus Pro Analysis text along with in-line citations in your chosen reference style. Learn more here.

For “Yes/No” questions, the Consensus Meter uses large language models to instantly classify the results as indicating “yes”, “no” or “possibly” in a clean, aggregated interface.   • Fresh, new design: The results page received a major redesign. Titles now stand out at the top of each result tile, with the extracted answer presented clearly in a gray text box.
